Bike Key Biscayne
Dedicated to making Key Biscayne more bicycle-friendly and improving relations between bicyclists and motorists.

Rickenbacker Causeway

We continually monitor improvements for bicycling on the Rickenbacker Causeway. In 2012 we  formed an ad hoc committee focused on the Bear Cut Bridge reconstruction project. Our goal for this committee was to ensure that consideration would be given to bicyclists and pedestrians in all planning and implementation related to the project. We also took the position that at no point during the project would bicyclists and pedestrians be prohibited from using the bridge. Our participation helped to see the bridge project to completion. The bridge now offers 14-foot multiuse paths in both directions for its entire length.

Representatives of Bike Key Biscayne meet regularly with planners in the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works to discuss additional improvements to the causeway. We played a leading role in implementation of the popular green bike lanes on the causeway, and we have advocated for continuation of the green paint on the bike lanes on Crandon Boulevard in the Village. This project is currently being considered as part of the county's application for supplemental federal funding.
